Brake Fluid Type S70 2000

The Volvo S70 GLT's owner's manual states that DOT 4+ brake fluid be used. Is DOT 4+ the same as DOT 4? What is the difference? Where might I find DOT 4+ fluid (aside from at the dealer)? How many cans/how much fluid do I need to change the brake fluid?

Thanks for your help!

    Brake Fluid Type

I used ATE Super Blue fluid to flush my brakes and 1/2 liter is all you need but they sell it in 1 liter bottles. I don't remember the specs but ATE exceeds DOT4+. Check the link for more info

    Good luck

Is ATE a brand name? Please define ATE. Where can I purchase this product?

      Thanks.

      Might as well upgrade...

ATE fluid is around $10 or less per liter. Might as well upgrade if you're going to flush the brakes.

FYI - Super Blue is no longer available. The "Typ 200" fluid sold now has the same specs, but is gold in color.

Ahh. I thought that IPd had mixed up my order somehow. I knew I read about blue fluid somewhere. Mine was yellow also when I purchasd it about one month ago to flush my system.

What is 'IPd'? Is that a company I can purchase the fluid from? How do I reach them?

          Thanks.

            Whoops

Er. Sorry about that. What you want to look for is ATE Typ 200 brake fluid. Might be able to find it locally at a speed shop, but it's easy to find at an online retailer.

IPD = www.ipdusa.com - Useful link for Volvo goodies, for both new and old.

The ATE fluid should be $9.95 per liter there.
