Oil leak & Oil Spray on engine S80

My 99 S80 sat unused for ~2 weeks in a garage. Two days after putting it back in service I noticed a big puddle of oil under it. I popped the hood & found the right front side of the engine & compartment was covered with oil. I droped the belly pan and found the right front area dripping with oil. The source of the leak was not apparent. It took about ~1/2 qt of oil to top up the engine & I'd estimate this is about how much was on the floor & engine bay. I cleaned up the engine & bay & continued driving. No sign of a leak yet. The car has 52K miles. I use Moble 1 and change it @ 5K intervals.

Has anyone had this experience and if so did you find out what cause it?

Charlie

Oil leak & Oil Spray on engine S80 1999

My S80 had the same problem, I found it to be a loose dip stick o-ring. I had it replaced and have not seen any oil since.

Charlie,
There is a recent TSB which may point to your problem and the fix. Title; "Oil pump attachment screws, copper washer installation" Description; "Oil leakage may occur at one or more of the oil pump retaining screws." # 0047 07/02 Copper washers are installed under the 4 retaining screws. 1.1 hours labor quoted.

I havent seen that one yet but if that's not the source, the oil filter housing o-ring might be the source too if not replaced at last oil change or improperly installed and yes, that can be done.

There's yet another TSB about flame trap breather box seals leaking (same area) and that's become a fairly common source of oil seapage on S80s lately.
