Emissions System Air Pump Preventive Maintenance 850 1994

Is there anything I can do to extend the life of the air pump? Currently, it seems to be working okay- but I have read on the brickboard that it can fail due to water building up inside. Thanks in advance for any help. -Brett

Replace the pumps check valve located above the exhaust manifold as that part failing is why water gets to the pump. Another main reason for why water accumulates there is due to its poor location, the lowest point of the car where water can't escape if and when it gets there. Although it would be a project, if it were my car I'd try to relocate that pump to a higher location even though there aren't many good options to that idea.

It has also been mentioned to drill a 1/8" hole in the bottom of the pump to let water drain out
