Need advise on S40 T4 S40-V40

Hi All,

I am considering buying a new T4 but would like know if any
of the T4 owners can share their experiences on their cars,
be it positive or negative.

Secondly, if it is a choice between a one year old S60 (2 litre)
or a new S40 T4, what would most people's choice be? Where I am,
both would cost nearly the same. Also, second hand S60s usually
comes with pretty high mileages.

Thanks for you input.

Need advise on S40 T4 S40-V40

S/V40 T4 is the high-pressure turbo version of the S40.

Sold outside the USA with 200HP as standard (actually.. Volvo lies through their teeth here.. Around 220HP in stock form is more realistic).

In the USA you only get the low-pressure turbo and only in an automatic. The rest of the world does get manual transmissions.

Bye, Arno.

Need advise on S40 T4 S40-V40

Do you mean an S60 turbo or a normally-apirated one?

Prety big difference driving-wise between both cars.

The S60 is a much more recent design and as such is more refined, but if it's a normally aspirated version then it has pretty average performance figures.

The T4 is great if you want a car which can turn into a monster if you floor the throttle, but it's less refined and of course based on an older design.

I have owned a T4 and I loved it to bits. The ease with which is will catapult you to speeds well in excess of 120mph is wonderful. The current T4's are even beter. Tuning to around 250HP is not difficult..

I'd suggest you do an extended (several hours) test-drive of both types of cars. It's largely a question of personal preference which one is best for you.

One thing to keep in mind though is that the new S40/V50 will be coming at the end of 2003 or early 2004, so the current model may sink very rapidly in value once the new one (completely new design) comes onto the market.

You may lose less money on a used S60 when you sell it in a few years again.

Bye, Arno.

Need advise on S40 T4 S40-V40

Hi Arno,

Thanks for responding. I was referring to the S60 light pressured
turbo. Most dealerships where I live do not have extended test drives.
However, I have test driven both cars on separate occasions.

I liked the look of the S60 and the refinement of the engine but
enjoyed the urgency of the T4. The T4 is probably better suited for
my needs but I suppose I am wondering if the second hand S60 being a
newer model with a more refined engine would be worth pursuing.

Appreciate your input on the depreciation factors. Has there been
any news on how the new S40 will look like?

Regards,
Greg

I guess we'll see, but introduction dates and model ranges may differ (significantly) between europe and the US.

So far has end 2003 for the S40 and early 2004 for the V50 been tentatively confirmed here by my dealer.

Bye, Arno.

Hi Arno and all,

Did you have any particular problems with your T4, mechanical or
otherwise?
