Trailer Hitch for V70 & wiring V70-XC70 2001

I need to add a trailer hitch to my 2001 V70 T5. I'm going to go with a non-volvo hitch, probably DeLann, and install it myself. I'm more concerned about the wiring than the hitch installation. I can order a wiring "converter" which would attach directly to the battery but have seen archive posts about a Volvo "pre-wired" plug-in. Where is this? Does it only work with Volvo parts? Can the Volvo wiring harness be purchased separately from the tow hitch or is there a way to adapt the outlet plug to a standard wiring harness?

Pete

You can buy a seperate volvo wiring harness that plugs directly into a socket located near the battery in the rear compartment. The problem is that it ends in a round adapter with round pins which do not conform to any north american standard. I purchased the volvo hitch with a square 2 inch receptacle, I wanted the 2" since there are many accessories you can purchase for it. You can buy a standard wiring converter and wire it yourself following this wiring code.

Blue +12V in key position II via fuse 11D/15
Red +12V at all times via fuse 11D/9
Yel from brake light relay. +12V with brakes applied.
Pink rear fog light (may require software to activate)
    Black Ground
    Gray R parking light
Grn-wht R directional (connects directly to lamp socket)
Green L directional (connects directly to lamp socket)
    White L parking light
Blue Tail lights (connects directly to lamp socket)

    Regards,

Is it worth buying the Volvo wiring harness then or are you better off just wiring from the leads into the socket since you have to do the wiring anyway?

I would wire it myself. There is a grommet near the battery for this purpose. The volvo harness is very expensive and terminates in a useless plug. For more money you can buy an adapter to go to a 4 pin trailer plug. You will be out of luck if you need a 5 or 7 pin plug such as those for small tent trailers.
