Emmision Control Service S80

This is a followup to the last postint regarding my ABS light. I have now received the Emmission Control Service message and Check Engine Light. Is this due to a sensor that is measuring the wrong level or mixture of exhaust gases? Is this controlled by the same board that the ABS is controlled from? Are there any things that I can try to correct this ( fuel injector cleaner etc) before taking it to the dealer?

Make sure your gas cap is on tight. Sounds stupid but the dealer charged me $80 to diagnos a loose cap. I also had engine check and emmission light on. By the way, it was my kid that didn't tighten the cap!

I believe that it was the gas cap. I filled up today and tightened the cap appropriately. Since I was on my mobile phone ( I know Volvo drivers are supposed to be safe.) I didn't notice if the light was on after the gas fill. My drive was only a mile or so. When leaving this evening I noticed that the light didn't appear at or after startup. I'm assuming that the gas cap was it until it reappears. It is strange that the gas cap was the issue because it occurred half way through a tank instead of after the last gas stop. Thanks to all for your help on this one.

This happened to me also after I took it to the dealer for a state inspection. I got both the warning lights you did (ABS and Emissions). They fixed the ABS problem but I still get emmission warning and check engine warning lights. It seems to be a computer problem as oppose to an actual probem as the light goes on and off as I turn the car off, remove the key and restart. I don't know what the issue is but it could be as simple as the dealer reloading the software.
