Problem with c70 convertible top C70 2001

I noticed a peculiar behaviour in the convertible top of my 2001 C70. When I park my car in an open parking lot under direct sunlight (office parking lot) and try to take the top down in the evening (car is parked in the sun for more than 8 hours) it stops half way through. The temperature inside the car is more than 72F. There is a small motor fixed in the frontside of the top that locks the top. This motor dies after pushing the top half way through.

This does not happen when I park the car in a parking garage (under shade).
I took the car to my dealer and unfortunately they were unable to reproduce the problem that day as the weather was cold.

I'm posting this message to find out if anyone else has similar problem.

The convertable system in your car has onboard diagnostics, and storesm fault codes when there is a malfunction. Did the dealer read the codes? It has been my experience that when the Volvo top system stalls in mid operation, fault codes atre usually stored. Possible 1 or more motors or potentiometers are overheating. If a potentiometer does not report the corect info to the control unit, a code is stored. I would ask the dealer to check the system for diagnostic codes.

Thanks for pointing out. I had the potentiometer replaced by the dealer's service department at least once (if not twice). Yes, they were able to read the fault codes and took an entire week to get the potentiometer fixed/replaced. But the problem persists.

You'll have to take it back. Unfortunaly those convertable tops are often problematic and the fault codes in themselves are often misleading. The book and/or Vadis diagnostic flow chart for any code is also less than ideal IMHO so when convertable problems arize, properly diagnosing/repairing the real problem is usually not easy UNLESS the tech has ALOT of experience with those and few do.
