v 70 check engine light-1st time V70-XC70 1999

I've scanned nearly all of the archives on this subject (very informative) but what should I do first? This just happened yesterday after a few stop and go shopping stops. Did notice @ one time the temp @ 111 degrees. Any correlation?

Volvo is 1999 V70 with 51,000 miles no problems till now. Got gas a few days ago. Checked the gas cap after the fact yesterday. On securely.

Any suggestions before the dreaded dealership visit?

Thanks!

I bet $10M that it's your oxygen sensor. Dealer replacement=$440. You can buy on net for $100 and replace via Volvo repair person for roughly $40 - $60, labor.

How would you like that $10M? Autozone found code P171 to be the source of the problem. Read "System too lean (Bank 1). What to do now? Ck with dealer? Order part? and if so, where do you suggest.

Thanks for your help!

Wow, first time ce light at 51,000?

Other options:

1. Auto Zone. They will hook up to your diagnosstic port for free and tell what the code is;

2. Don't do anything for awhile. It might reset itself and go away.

There are few options:
1. go to a dealer or an indy and find out what the code is
2. get your own scanner
3. disconnect car's battery for 15 min. to reset it.
Good luck
