any 1 ever install a turbo timer for a v70r awd auto with security V70-XC70

I would like to install a turbo timer to save the turbo as much as I can from my past experiences with them they tend to go out (bearings) so I'v been shoping for one looking at the hks , apex , blitz etc... and a sales person mentioned something quite interesting about the security feartures on the car ...i called my local dealer and they told me just drive it and dont worry about it ....what should I do ????? foreget it and let the turbo roast paying for it later or try to install one posibly messing with the security stuff in the car.....cause i do like to drive fast (I live in a hilly area of california and man when that turbo kicks whoahw) i m getting anoyed with sitting in the car wating for it to cool down ????

Not necessary. Spend your money on something more fun. V70-XC70

The turbos in these cars rarely fail, so you'd be better off putting synthetic in the crankcase and investing the change in something with a fun factor. A G-tech maybe.

You've got the AWD, so you should be worried about the bevel gear, not the turbo.

yeah I know about the synthetic oil I usually use this stuff called redline but recently started using mobil cause costco (california) sells them in bulk for a good price ..and I keep hearing about this bevel gear going out on awd's it hasnt happen to me yet (knock on wood or titanium) with 94K on a 98 v70r ..I do alot of driving on snow and icy tahoe / colorado roads but then again i do take good care of my brick so what is this bevel gear ??? it sounds kinda expensive ...and what can you do to keep it from damage ...??? how can you tell if its dead.....???

To keep your bevel gear troublefree, make sure that the car always has 4 of the same type tires with the same wear all around. By that I mean that if you ever need 1 or 2 tires (blown, worn, etc), you can't just replace 1 or two tires, you'll need to replace all 4 at the same time. If you ever need to use the spare tire, do read the owners manual on that regarding max amount of miles and vehicle speed because any more than that can and will do damage to the bevel gear. Frequent tire rotation will also help keep all tires evenly worn.

any 1 ever install a turbo timer for a v70r awd auto with security C70 1999

I installed an Apexi turbo timer on my '99 C70 HPT w/ 5 speed. I chose the apexi because of its tiny remoted display (I installed mine in the sunvisor to the left of the mirror on the driver's side) and b/c it's the only turbo timer currently available that uses O2 sensor input to determine cool down time if desired (added benifits being a built in A/F meter and Voltmeter). Same as Frank, I give the car a bit of gas right as I turn off the key so it doesn't backfire, then I hop out and lock the doors manually. I have still been unable to dick around with the factory alarm/immobilizer/keyless entry/whatever to ANY extent, unlike aftermarket alarms which will allow you to change things like beep or silent, passive arming or not, passive locking or not, etc etc. I don't even know how to set off the alarm... opening the door from the inside of the car after pressing the lock button doesn't seem to do it, yet I can get the alarm to go off by pressing the "panic button" on the remote. Anyone have any more insight on this?

Save your money and time V70-XC70

There's no need to ever install a turbo timer UNLESS you're racing. I have yet to see a newer (than '87) water cooled Volvo turbo fail from bad bearings.
My '86 745T still has an oil cooled only turbo and I don't want or need a turbo timer (nor do I idle the engine for 1-2 minutes) because I'm not racing the car immediately before shutting the engine off.
If you're driving normally before shutting the engine off, the turbo bearings are cool enough.
You'ld be better off spending the money on a good synthetic oil instead.

i've got hks turbo timer on my car. the security system is armed to the engine ignition...so u cannot remotely arm the car if the engine is on, only way to bypass this is to get an aftermarket one that doesn't rely on the engine running. so, when i'm at home, i leave the car on (using the turbo timer) and lock it manually...i don't do it that often when i'm out.
