Maintenance indicator reset S80 2002

Trying to get the maintenance indicator reset on my '02 S80. My mechanic says the procedure that used to work on the older Volvos (mentioned something about holding the trip reset button and turning the key on) does not work for the 2002 and apparently must go to the dealer to be reset.

This guy has always treated me right, but I can't help but wonder WHAT THE HECK?

Havent contacted the dealer yet, but would like to be informed before I do.

The trip meter has 2 modes, T-1 and T-2. You will see a little tiny T-1 or T-2 in the display. To change between modes, press and release the reset button. Must be in T-1 to reset the service reminder. Turn the key to position I. Press and HOLD the trip reset button while watching the trip display. When the miles reset to zero, turn the key to position II while holdingt the trip reset. Continue holding and watch the trip display. When the original milage display returns, release the trip reset. Turn the key off, then back on and start engine. Service reminder should now be reset.
