Sensor in rear bumper? C70

I just had my '98 C70 rear-ended last week-very minor. Exact same damage as my sister's '00 C70 a couple of months back. While the bumper was off at the body shop, I noticed a black wire connection from the vicinity of the tailight to the bumper. Is this wire for some sort of a sensor in the event of a rear-end collision? I did not notice any unusual dash lights coming on after the collision and the car drives fine. Any ideas?

    I'm pretty sure that's your diversity antenna for the radio. In my S70 owner's manual, it's described in the section on the stereo systems.
