Best struts/shocks to use w/ ipd sport springs? 850

Greetings,
I have a 94 850 turbowagon and I ordered a set of IPD lowering springs and I planned to use Bilstein struts, but I read that the yellow Bilsteins will actually raise the ride height with stock springs and give the original ride height with lowering springs.
Is this true?
Should I just use new Boge struts or perhaps Bilstein "touring"(black), Koni?
I would like a lower ride height and a good firm ride.(but not too harsh)
Thank you

I just installed bilstein shocks and struts along with OMP springs. I must say that I am very impressed and so far like the ride very much. Just remember if you are putting in performance shocks and struts expect your ride quality to suffer cause you are buying handling and performance. You can't gain on both ends, one has to give.

I will have to agree that the bilsteins raise the height in the front cause my drop in the front, although I can tell is not that substantial. The rear drop was a whole lot more.

Overall I am impressed with my work ( I installed them at home). Next is a OMP strut brace and the long awaited IPD sway bars.

good luck

Sadude

u won't get good ride with bilstein heavy-duty (yellow) and ipd sport springs...it's down right ugly on rough roads and pot holes. i liked the old stock springs with bilsteins for compromise. as for the otherway around, haven't tried it. it's great with bilstein hd for enthusiastic driving (although i feel it's a little skittish on uneven pave at high speed), but u pay with ride quality big time. there is one way u can avoid it and that is to get 16" or even 15" instead of 17"

I dont know much about the lowering springs, BUT if you need advice on ride quality, dont bother with the Bilsteins!!!!

The Touring Class (black) will raise the cars height by about an inch or so, BUT the ride quality will not change....

The Heavy Duty (yellow) will make the car ride like shit!!! The heavy duty ones are really really tough and from what i understand sometimes make the ride downright unbearable on rough roads

I tried to improve the ride on my 96 850 by replacing the front struts with the Bilstein Touring class and replaced the rear with the Boge OEM but no luck.... the car will ride like shit on any rough road...........

I hope this helps out.....

Ali

Bilstein HD on Stock Springs + 15' Wheels = Better than OEM Ride 850 1996

That's funny. My ride actually improved when I replaced the Boge with Bilstein all around. The brick doesn't feel like it'll bottom out anymore on dips, and it handles the bumps a little more eloquently.

I have the Bil's HD on my XC and LOVE the Handeling!! Granted I still am retaining the factory springs, but I left those due to the potential rough ride syndrome!

The 17's will also make the car ride worse!

YMMV!
