A/C and recirculate lights blink - no blower fan 850 1995

I just returned from a week of vacation. Started my 95 850 T5 to find the A/C and recirculate lights blinked for about 5 seconds, then stopped. The blower motor does not work, although it does sound like the AC compressor engages. Any suggestions? I spent all of my money on vacation - can't afford to bring it to the dealer!

since your car is a 95 volvo 850 you can pull the codes yourself. under the hood on the left hand side right by the power steering and windshield washer resevoir. Open the cap on the left and right side and it is marked A and B. insert the test lead into slot B1, i think. then turn your key until right before it starts (all lights on dash on) now push the little black button, for 1 second. you will get a series of lights, these are codes. right them down and then check them out in a haynes manual or look for them online. the codes are in series of 3. like 1-1-1, which means everything is okay. so like lets say your codes is 1-4-2, you will 1 light, followed by 4 blinks, followed by 2 blinks and then push the button again and keep going until u repeat. once u repeat, hold the button for 8 seconds and let go and then when the light comes on again, hold again for 8 seconds. let go and now u should get code 1-1-1. pull out the test lead, start your car, i bet your fan will work now.

for more info on checking your codes check out volvospeed.com and also some place called oz brick, its on the geocities website.

BTW I have pulled 2 codes for my blower not working and my passenger side climate control something or another, just reset and see if they come back. if they don't come back it was just a bunch of BS.

later

This sounds like what I had happen with my s70 last year. Unfortunately, the blinking lights are the system's way of telling you it needs to be looked at by a mechanic. For me, it turned out that the blower motor needed to be replaced and the system reset. Not sure if when you replace the motor the sytem automatically resets or if you need the volvo tool to reset it. If it's like everything else, the tool is probably needed. Sorry not to have better news.
