Broken off turn indicator stalk 850 1995

Yes, I know that this may be a rare problem, but I need advice on a fix-it. I wasn't present at the time, but my wife "promises" that she was only trying to signal a left turn and the entire "stalk" snapped off! Right now, the entire stalk is dangling by the wires! (It's almost worth it b/c she has to stick her arm out the window and signal!)

The cruise control still works, if you can manage the limp biscuit (sic) stalk switch. When the rubber boot is removed, I can see that the black plastic has indeed snapped off right at the white plastic rectangle ...

Has anyone had to do a fix-it on this? Cost? Procedure? Thanks.

    Update:Broken off turn indicator stalk 850 1995

Hey, everyone -- thanks for the feedback. Just a quick update on my quest for the actual part. I won't get it until next week so no update on the actual fix-it.

MAIL ORDER VOLVO PARTS (available to anyone -- no code or other catch):
    1) Keene Volvo was exceptionally nice, but said they don't do discounts, per se. (Did I imagine that?) "Retail is $105.60"
    2) Beechmont (usually no charge for s/h!): "Retail is $115.44 and we substract 15% for mail order ... taking it down to $98.12."
    3) Local dealer (no discount): "Retail is $98-something(?)"

    * 4) Nils Sefeldt Volvo (Houston): "Retail is $98-something(?) and you get it for $73.73." This was (as usual) the best price. Also, they have Volvo oil filters for $5.91 and just $5.00 if you get 12 of them! They do charge shipping, but it is their actual UPS charges, I think (s/h for me was $12.50 for UPS to TN, and I got several other items).

Nevermind the big range in "retail price" from the different dealers -- I don't know how that's possible, unless they just set their own retail, based perhaps on Volvo's recommendations.

    Phone numbers for you:
Nils Sefeldt (Mike is very helpful) 1-800-468-0041
    Keene: 1-800-445-6171
    Beechmont: 1-800-255-3601

My turn signal indicator snapped off too, I was just making a left hand turn - nothing too vigorous. I'm glad to read I'm not the only one - seems to be yet another 850 glitch (mine's a '94).
Had it repaired by dealer while I was replacing rear door panel and left side moulding (for the second time). Good luck

my daughter broke mine--said she was only signalling a turn--who knows. I had the dealer fix it I think for around $75. of course I said it was her fault, but maybe not? oh well........

My wife also broke hers, also was just signaling turn. Maybe some brave sole will start a post about things wives do....

Very easy to fix, my biggest issue is removing the cover because I needed a tool I didn't have. You'll find instructions for that at:

    http://www.volvospeed.com/Repair/ignit_switch.htm

Note the need for an 8 inch 15 torx screwdriver required, you probably have the others needed.

The stalk was about $80-90 from dealer and took a day or two to come in. Just unscrew cover, unscrew & unplug old, plug and screw in new, replace cover. 1/2 hour job if you follow union rules and take a break.

    Good luck!
