Chip tuning S70 1998

FYI, I bought a performance chip upgrade on E-bay from Speedtuning.com ($200). I received the upgrade yesterday and I must say it is quite impressive. The cost was a fraction of other chip tuners. I highly recommend these guys. Total turn around was about 3 days. Question: Do I need a new exhaust system? I have a K&N filter already. This car is my fourth Volvo Turbo and is now by far the fastest.

I get no website when I type www.speedtuning.com. Is that the correct address? Or is that just an Ebay username that doesn't correspond to a website?

    Thanks.

Oh, and, by the way, I agree with others who suggest the exhaust upgrade. IPD claims a chipped engine without the upgraded exhaust can damage the car.

Sorry, that's www.speedtuningusa.com. I am still curious for any info regarding chipping a GLT. It seems to me that it is quit similar to a stock T5.

I’m certainly no rocket scientist but wouldn’t this car be ok without the free flow exhaust since it's a GLT or light turbo? The chip adds about 30 to 40 hp max. Wouldn’t this be pretty close to a stock T5 which has the same exhaust and transmission.

definetly do the exhaust. with the new chip you are pushing more boost and which in turn leads to more heat and more flow. if you do not accomadate the flow your cat and muffler will become overheated. definetly look around for a new downpipe and catback system.

    ryman,

If you stay in the boost a lot, get the exhaust. It will reduce wear/tear by passing through the hot exhaust byproducts more quickly. You need the reduced back pressure to prevent heat-related damage.

A previous post went into specifics, but I don't recall exactly when. Maybe other readers can refresh us both.

A new exhaust system would help the extra stress put on by the extra power added, plus it would add some more power.
