1995 850 Radio Locked, how long to wait for it to return to 'CODE'. 850 1995

It got locked at the dealership, so I have been patiently waiting for my SC-815 Radio to come back to "CODE" It've had it turned on for 3 hours, and it still doesn't say anything. Is there something I need to do to get it to say "CODE" or do I keep waiting? I have read that it takes 2 hours, or possibly 2.5 hours. After the 2 or 2.5 hours does it just display "CODE", or do I need to press a button? Presently, with the radio on, it has a blank screen. If I were to turn it off, it would just say "OFF", but I won't because it would probably mean I need to restart the waiting game.

Any suggestions? They'd be appreciated.

-Ted

    Ted,

If the message is "CODE", that means you have to enter a numeric code to reactivate the radio. You should have gone back to the dealership to have them fix it, because they obviously disconnected the batter, which locks the radio.

Turn the ignition (and thus the radio) off, then back on. If that doesn't work, unhook the negative cable on the battery again--this is how it got locked to begin with. However, if it got locked at the dealership, it is probable that the dealership entered an incorrect code, which means that just calling them with your VIN and asking for the correct code will not suffice to revive your radio. The radio in my 1995 850 is not original, and the first time I got a code from the dealership, it was wrong. All the dealership has is the code for the radio originally installed in the vehicle--if it has been changed out, they will need all the information off the top of the radio in order to get you the right code. Luckily for me, whoever installed my radio wrote the code on top, so all I had to do was input that code instead.
