My 2001 T5 V70 never ceases to amaze me with it balls out performance!. As I round the on-ramp to the local interstate I glance over my shoulder to my 2- and 5-year-old boys...they smile in anticipation...I begin to straighten the wheel for the final entrance...I check my mirrors...then daddy routinely announces, "Three...two...one...blast off!" With that I punch it and we all enjoy the launch. :) Smiles all around. :) I may have to look into aftermarket fixes to the torque steer, but it really isn't too unbearable.

Well I never speed too terribly much with the fam' in the car, yet when alone, I knock it on up over 120mph+ (if the conditions allow/dictate) so routinely that I really don't remember how fast I've had my V70 T5.

Officially, I've read varying reports. I've seen the 0-60 time listed in a chart as 7.1 with a top speed of 155mph. This from VolvoCentral.com quoting CAR Magazine June 2002...where in a writeup they say Volvo claims a 0-60 of 6.7sec??

On a UK dealer site Kerr-Motors lists specs for 0-100kmh times and top speed for man/auto. They have the V70 2.4SE with 9.0/9.9sec and 210km/h. The V70 2.4T with 7.9/8.3sec and 210km/h. And the V70 T5 7.1/7.5sec and 250/240 kmh.

That makes a 6.7sec 0-60mph seem about right (100kmh=62.14mph) and the 240kmh for my Automatic would equal 149mph top end.

Anyway, as someone said we may very well be limited by a governor here in the US anyway. Tell you what...I'll pay attention this week and I'll get back to you. ;)

C/D tested the 3722# curb weight V70T5A, July 2000 and reported a top speed of 130, governor limited.

R&T tested the 3400# curb weight 855 Turbo, 4 speed automatic March 1994 and reported a top speed of 155.

BMW will be offering a 380HP biturbo 3 liter 6-cylinder in the new E60 5-series. The ol' 2.3 liter inline 5 turbo was nice enough in 1994, but it's 2002 now. Methinks Volvo has been sitting on their laurels for WAY too long.

They are electronically limited so it depends on the year and
the country. alldatadiy.com has this for my 98 T5:

Max. speed: 240 km /h (149 mph) (manual), 230 km/h (143 mph) (automatic).
Speed limited by engine management system to 250 km/h (155 mph).

Although I suspect max speed is really limited to 143 for U.S. market.
In 1999 Volvo dropped the max speed to something like 130 mph
for U.S models.
