Adjusting auto shifting V70-XC70 2000

I've recently found a 2000 V70 for my wife to drive. We live in the mountains of Colorado where engine speed and tourque is important. Her V70 always runs such a low engine speed even while pulling uphill fully loaded (less than 2500 rpm) that the engine is lugging down. Is there a way to adjust the shifting sensitivity to bump up the engine speed (She refuses to use the manually selected lower gears...)?

    What does your dealer have to say about this?

    You could tell your wife that you just reread the owner's manual and it tells you to drive in "3" all the time ;)
