raise car?? 850 1995

I've read a lot of posts about people wanting to lower the car slightly--and I was wondering if there is any way to raise it slightly?? It's a 95 850 turbo sedan with 15" plus one size tires. Every time I go over a dip there is significant bounce and rubbing on the wheel well liner. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? Thanks in advance.

what size tires and rims do you have?

i am using stock volvo 15" 6 spoke rims with 205x55x15 instead of the stock 195x60x15. I have no rubbing and an excellent ride.

if your car is not a "R" and it has OEM 15" rims then the stock tire size is probably 195x60x15 the 205x60x15 you have is a wider tire and therefore may the reason why you are getting a hard ride and the bottoming out you feel is the tire rubbing the wheel well most likely.

That is why i am using 205x55x15 size, it is a little shorter sidewall and there fore gives more clearance for the tire in the wheel well.

I have never had my tires rub not even over a bad bounce or rough road.

Also all tires are a little different size depending on the Mfg. the same size 205x60 may be a smaller tire from someone else. you can get all the Tech tire data: Circumferance, height, width, etc, from www.tirerack.com i was surprised at how much difference there can be in the same size tire.

Also i am using BF Goodrich Touring TA'a they are 149 mph rated 205x55x15.

Check your manual and see if it says 195x60x15 is recommended, then the 205x60's are the problem.

Several items to consider before raising the car are CV joint angles, shock/strut length, tie rod and control arm angles.

Raising the car could drastically shorten the life of suspension and drive components. Higher CG, more body roll when cornering and topping out the shocks/struts over dips are also possible considerations.

Is is possible the springs are shot and new ones would put the car back to where it should be? (has 181K)

fender flairs/roll would probably be more desirable than raising the car...not that an inch will do much..but think about the suv roll-over horror stories...

    overload springs 850 1995

IPD overload springs might do it:

" ipd overload springs keep you riding level. They're 20% stiffer than stock springs and they help maintain the original ride height (can raise some cars as much as 1/2"). The design assures a good ride, even when your Volvo is free of cargo."
