Had my 2001 V-70 T-5 on the driveway with the sun roof cracked open slightly to vent out hot air on a rather hot 90(+) degree day recently. Since I was in the basement, I elected to lock the car using my remote and pressing the lock button. When I returned, I did not have the remote with me to unlock the car but I did have my spare set of keys. So I inserted the key in the driver's door and turned it only to have the alarm go off! I quickly inserted the key in the ignition and started the engine which immediately stopped the alarm from sounding. However, when I attempted to close the sun roof, it simply would not work. After repeated attempts ( including turning the car on and off again) I could not get the sun roof to close. When I talked to a Volvo technician at my local dealer, he told me to put the key in the driver's side door and activate the door lock again. He said that it would "wake up the Upper control Module" which sometimes "goes to sleep by itself". This module is one of 3 or 4 computers which control various electrical devices in the car (one of which is the sun roof). However, he could not explain why the alarm went off when I opened the car door with my key. After following his instructions, the sun roof immediately worked. Hope this may solve similar problems for other members of the list. Mike
