Does anyone know where to find a good price on a roof rack system with bike racks, cargo box, etc.? The strap on racks just don't seem to work! Thanks!

i got my rack from a volvo dealer in canada, it was about 60% less than the dealer in seattle when you factor in the exchange and since i was a american i got it without the provincial tax and was able to get the national tax (GST) when i crossed the border. I got the rack for about $130 canadian with locks. I got a Thule ski box from GI Joes when they have their sale saved 20%. Here the yakima stuff is the same price as the thule stuff.

I just got a quote on Volvo factory racks (Thule I think makes 'em) from Brentwood Volvo (314 644-9501) that is a great price compared to Yakima or Thule aftermarket (like half). I've always preferred Yakima, but others I know prefer Thule.

Problem is, as I understand it the factory racks mount in fixed positions (no fore-aft-spacing adjustment) and we have a cargo box that also is fixed cross bar spacing. I'm going to have to measure mouting points on the car (I assume the screw holes in the door jamms?) and the cargo box to see if the factory rack will work. Else I'll be looking for a deal on Yakima too (local sporting goods place always sells Yakima at 10% off...like to do better though).

For what it's worth I bought most (but not all) the Yakima parts in Canada (I live close to the border....) I saved a few dollars...not that much, but worth it.

I went through the same process last month. Thule are good quality but very expensive (check the cargo box price!), and Volvo the same plus whenever I said 850 and roof racks to the dealers I spoke with, they suddenly didn't want to work with me.

I decided on Yakima. Great fit, good prices. Just completed a vacation. The rack set-up was flawless.(Be sure to buy enough matched locks)
