Chipped LPT vs. Stock R 850

Would a chipped low-pressure GLT be faster than a stock R model? The GLT is 2.4 Ltr as opposed to the R's 2.3, as well as the turbo spooling up quicker in the GLT would seem to make the care faster off the line with a ECU upgrade to 240 Hp. Do you agree?

What is the MOST power (hp) available for the GLT without damaging the motor? Exhaust + ECU + wastegate adjust + cone air filter + ? = ?Hp

Thnx guys!!

    Chipped LPT vs. Stock R V70-XC70 1998

I am very interested in this question, I drive a 98 V70 AWD and was wondering if I can get it up to stock R specs. Two angles:
    1. From charts and by stats posted by IPD, it looks like the chipped LPT could outrun a stock R early. You can compare the chipped LPT gain vs. the stock R, HP and torque charts from IPD.
    2. But the real world is not in some lab. I agree with the rest of the post, on a real road, I don't think it can. The only way to tell is maybe have one side by side sprint.

It really depends on your mods on which car is faster. You can adjust wastegate, but it only helps low end boost (off line), the ECU will control top boost.

The 2.3 (T-5 or R) displacement is lower because the cylinder walls are lined to better withstand the heat and pressure. The 2.3 also has sodium filled valves, forged pistons and different rods. Supposedly, 300hp is the upper limit for an unmodified, stock T-5; certainly less for the 2.4T which is not built with the same load and heat tolerances.

Adjusting the wastegate is a waste of time, as the ECU will detect it and retard performance to compensate. Turn the wastegate too far and the ECU will turn off the motor.

240hp in the faster-spooling LPT would be a quick car indeed. At some point, though, the higher top-end performance of the HPT will kick in, but it would be a pretty close race to 60mph. Above 60, the HPT will be ahead as it moves more air.

You are not going to get 50HP from just an ECU upgrade and exhaust. From 190 HP you are going to top out at 235. Still no match for an R, even a 1998 or 1999. One of my salesmen, he has a 1999 XC, he chipped it (from iPd) and also got the exhaust, his car is a lot quicker but not like an R.

I was told by a Volvo shop that the 2.5 LPT also has forged crank and forged con rods. and yes thinner cylinder walls also.

I think the LPT has different compression ratio.

My car is very fast 0-60 but the top end is not as fast. I had trouble keeping up with a Ford SVT Lightening Pick up on the highway he was pulling away from me at 130 mph and it was pretty even from 70-110 then he just slowly pulled ahead.

    my 96 LPT is a 2.5 liter.

I have not chipped it but I did install a Dawes device and set the boost at 10 psi. it is a alot faster and 0-60 is very quick. I can beat a Turbo eclipse to 60 with a 1-2 car length lead.
