What to check on a used 850 T5-R with 42000 miles? 850

Hello everybody!

I am interested on buying this beutiful car! I am familiar with the 240's/740's turbo. What could be the major repairs on a 850 turbo? Is the "R" version any better than the regular turbo (other than the trim)? Thanks for any replies.

    If I am not mistaken, the T5R was only available in '95. After that they were just listed as R's. 42,000 miles on a car of that age is suspicious. I would get all service records and have the car checked out thoroughly.

    I have a T5R and they have a plethora of problems. Most of which are mainly just annoying, but expensive. Find a good independent mechanic that you like because you will be spending a lot of time with him. It has been a lot of fun to drive but like I said, expensive and at time the most frustrating vehicle i have ever owned.

    What to check on a used 850 T5-R with 42000 miles? 850

    The R has lowered chassis / suspension, higher engine HP (I think limited for 15 seconds or so),& larger brakes. Also should have 17" wheels. I saw a black one at www.vikingmotor.com which looked nice. I have the 98 R and modified it, love the car..lots of fun.

    As always have your mechanic check it out and have the seller produce service records. You didn't mention what year but 42000 is a newborn so the biggest concern would be that it hadn't been hit hard and is straight. You'll hear lots of stories about 850 problems but the later (96 97) I think were the better ones.

        What to check on a used 850 T5-R with 42000 miles? 850 1996

        Timing Belt 5 years or 70K miles needs to be replaced.
        Accessory belt also.

        Make sure the AC is cold and has had no leaks in the Evaporator 1000-minumun to replace.

        Has the oil always been changed when due? important for Turbo and Synthetic oil is better of course.

        Check the top center motor mount near firewall, they fail often.

        850's have been known to eat up front brake rotors.
