do i need the ipd tools to replace accessory belt? 850 1997

When I did my swap out, I used a bolt with a square head that fitted within the sqaure hole and a pair of vise grips. You can find the bolt at your local hardware store for around 50 cents. Unless to have better things to do with your money ............

Dan- check new belt routing. 850 1996

Got the T wagon back from the indie shop for 70000 mi. etc. and the tech printed a schematic of a new serp. belt routing which puts more belt on the alternator pully. Aparently there was enough of a problem, especially when wet, that someone found a better way. The new routing uses a longer belt.

Thanks for the info, I ordered the belt and Tools from IPD afterall they will be here tomorrow for saturday installation. Is there a new belt from Volvo? or same belt routed differently?

Is there anyway to get a copy of the new routeing? Fax?

      Thanks again,

      Dan

    Daniel,

Having the proper tool would probably make it much easier. That said, the Haynes manual shows fitting a piece of flat stock (steel or aluminum) into the tensioner's square hole and turning it with a crescent wrench. Crude but you'll likely only need to do this once or twice. That $25-$30 could buy a set of Hella air horns.

      No You Don't Need IPD's Tool!! 850

I use a $4- 7 inch flat steel pry bar that I got at home depot.

Just needs to fit the square hole in the tensioner and a little elbow grease.

    Daniel,

You can make your own I think.

But for @$25.00US I think it's well wortht the money. On my S70 with the IPD strut-tower brace, however, I had to remove the R strut-mounting to get the tool over far enough to turn the tensioner and align the locking pin.

Let me know if you need more info.

    Bryan
