i recently came back from vacation and i got in my car and pushed the automatic down window button on the drivers side and the window stopped going down just above the black window seal right before the window disappears. right at that point the window made a knocking sound inside the door. it sounded like something was off track. what could this noise be. thanks.

I fixed mine by removing the little red light by the face of the door and applied some silicone to the back of the rail when the window was done. After the silicone dried, it held the window quide in its normal position.

The lower portion of the window track will fall down into the door when the small metal tab breaks off, usually the drivers door since it is closed more often.
A weak point which can be welded (I don't know if Volvo has better ones) and reinstalled. Bay 13 has instructions and photos which made it a very easy task that took part of an afternoon. If you can weld it costs nothing.

I had a similar problem in my 1995 Volvo 850. I was on vacation, and heard a bump which then turned into grinding on the window. Granted, I was hammering my volvo on some pretty ugly logging roads so I left my window up until I got home.

Turned out that their is a metal track in the door that had broken off. The mechanic said he had seen this a few times before. It tookt he dealer about 40 minutes to replace. I believe the total bill was about $60.00 from the dealer.

P.S. if you have a chance ask to look at the door when they have it apart. You'll see why you bought a Volvo. The door is truly impressive. Never seen a door so heavily constructed!!!!!!

I am having a similar problem with the drivers side window but i think my situation is a bit worse. The whole door panel seems to be coming loose. one time i closed the door and i couldnt open the door from the outside (i had to go in the passenger side) i opened the door from the inside and closed it again and havnt had that problem again. anyone ever had the door panel come loose like that?? When i close the door it sounds like something is loose inside
