95 850 Turbo - OBD I AND II? 850 1995

I have a '95 850 Turbo. The Check engine light came on this weekend, so I went to my local AutoZone store, and they plugged the OBD-II reader into the socket under the coin holder, and I got a 133 code. The code cleared, but the light didn't reset!

The following day I noticed that under the hood is the old OCD-I box near the windshield washer cap. So I checked the codes on that and got a couple of problem codes on that, too. And when I reset that, the light went out.

All the codes were slow response from sensors and seem to have dissapeared for now. But which one of the OBD things is in use, or are they both?

    Hi,

According to this link, http://www.obdii.com/connector.html '95 850 N/A is reported to be fully compliant with the OBDII. However, '95 850 Turbo is NOT listed to be fully compliant. Click on the link and scroll to the end of the page. You'll see that there's two listing for 850 (turbo and N/A) one is compliant, the other is not. That might have been the problem with the scan tool that the shop used. I hope this helps.

They are both inputs into the same computer, and should display the same trouble codes.

I would give it a while and see if the trouble codes return. Not all trouble codes will turn on the "Check Engine" light, so I would check the under-hood module, even if the light is not on. Also, some of the codes registered may have been there a while.

Depending on what it is, if it doesn't come back, I probably wouldn't worry about it. (Use your judgement - if it's saying the ABS is having issues, for example, then get it looked at...)

    Roger
