2001 T5 tire rubbing...IPD springs V70-XC70

The stock tires 235/45/17"s on my 2001 T5 rub the inside wheel well in front. I rubs both wheels the same amount. Is this normal? I want to put IPD sport springs on it but wonder about increasing tire rub. Any one have experience with this? Jeff

The reason your wheels are rubbing the inner wheel well is due to the tire size being to big, yes this Volvo's fault for putting these tires on the car. Now Volvo NA stated they will have fix for the problem come July, according to my service advisor at Dyer and Dyer Volvo. Prior to that my Volvo dealership will install spacers to prevent the wheel scrub, so the car is cure for now until the real fix is ready. From what I understand it will include changing the front rotors, and some other parts. Right now I have a 1.6 in drop(VST Sport Suspension), 245/35-19ZR Nitto 555 and I have no rub at all. Hey call your delaer and get on their case, if you wish call Dyer and Dyer in Atlanta 770 452 0077 and maybe the will be able to get you a service number or something that your dealer can go by o get your car fixed.

Mine does the same thing with the 17 inch wheels on my V7 2001. The dealer and the customer service say that they have not heard of that before ( right) Customer service has been working the issues with my 17 inch wheels for 2 months now without resolution...I guess they are playing the waiting game. My 17" wheel/tire combo is excessively loud also. I am not happy. Rubbing wheels on OEM?...sounds like a design problem to me. Good Luck. Keep in touch.

The service manager at the local dealer says that it is normal to have some scrub on v 70 with 17" rubber. So far I only notice it in a parking lot at full lock. I have ordered IPD springs and sway bars.(August delivery). We shall see how much worse it gets.Jeff

Is it just me, or are the dealer service departments getting more imaginative in their explanations as to why a problem is not a warranty issue? Since when has it been considered normal to have "some wheel scrub" on a new OEM-configured "premium" automobile? Perhaps he is confusing the word "normal" with the word "common". If what he meant to say is that "it is common to have some scrub on a V70 with 17" rubber", then he is saying that a manufacturers' design flaw requires resolution with all affected customers getting warranty repairs. This is just one more example of dealers (and perhaps Volvo itself) dancing around an issue.

AMEN Brother! You hit the nail on the head. I have owned many BMWs, 1 Mercedes, Fords and the like and I can't ever remember being BS'd like I get at the Volvo Dealer and customer service. I and many drivers that make a concious choice to buy a particular auto based on performance, handling, saftey, and not just color do have a clue. This is my last Volvo...Back to BMW for me!

if u rub now, u'd rub when u lower. i'd get the dealer to check it out b4 u do anything, should be under warranty. u have the new v70 body right? this should not happen...if u put in ipd springs...the dealer might say that u lowered it and caused the rubbing, thereby would not be covered under warranty.
