Strange Noise S60 2002

Hello everyone.

I recently purchased a 2002 S60 2.4T demo with about 4600 miles on it. Since I've had the car, I've noticed a strange engine noise at very slow speeds (less than 10 MPH). The noise kicks in periodically and only lasts for about five seconds. It's sort of a whooshing/grinding sound that I can only hear with the radio and A/C off. All I can think of is that might be the turbo spinning at low rpm's, or some type of fan kicking in. But it doesn't sound normal The car does not do it at idle or at normal driving speeds. Only during stop and go traffic speed.

Anyone else experiancing anything like this or have any ideas??

Thanks,

taco

I have the same sound, I think. Is it when you get back on the gas, at about 10 mph? I think it's something w/ the turbo as well. Sounds like the wastegate opening or something.

Mine does it too, I actually like how it sounds.

You may be hearing the automatic ABS test. It sounds like a slight scrape and on my car it occurs around 12MPH every time after you turn on the ignition. I'm pretty sure this is documented in the manual.

nope, cause this happens everytime I hit the gas a certian way. Pretty sure it's a turbo thing because my dad's banks equiped 2k1 dodge cummins 24valve 3500 does it too.

Course it's peak boost is 36 pounds!
