Radio problems with SC-816? S70

I have the SC-816 stereo in my T5. In the past few weeks (recently bought the car), I've noticed the FM Stereo part kind of "fading out" from time to time. For anywhere from 5 seconds to a minute, a stereo station will sort of clip out and sound as if it were in mono. It just loses the high end. It happens on several stations, and I checked the antenna plug on the back of the head unit - in tight.

This only happens on FM stereo, not with the CD player. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Pat

There are a few hidden settings for things that may affect this.
    This page documents them:

    http://www.monmouth.com/~rothe/sc816.html

    Of interest to your problem:

"In summary, holding down the Chgr button while powering up the stereo allows you to switch between "stereo reception compensation" modes SRC1, SRC2, SRC3 and SRC4. "

    Worth a shot!

Very interesting... The description on that page matches what seems to be happening with my radio - sounds like it is switching itself to mono depending on signal strength. Of course, "ST" remains on the display...

"H = High multi-path sensitivity gives low stereo reception and switches to mono to keep interference to a minimum. Recommended in hilly areas."

I'll try it out when I get home. Thanks!

Could good be difference in firmware from radio to radio.
        Otherwise, don't know.
