Morning all,

I have driven Landrover all my life but am looking for a V70 since 2 weeks. Last week I found what I was looking for. A 2.0 V70 of 1999 with 91.000km at a local dealer.

Maintenance at the same dealer, car looked clean and in good shape.

I want to be sure I fully inspected the car, so can you tell me what to look for ?

There are two items I would look for,

1) Quality of the Transmission Fluid. Make sure it is not a dark brown with a burned smell. If so get the seller to flush the transmission with new fluid.

2) Have the Engine inspected for air in the oil. The Engine Oil pick-up Tube can have a deteriorated O-Ring, which causes the Engine Oil pump to suck air. This intern causes hydraulic lifters to chatter. Removing the engine oil cap while the engine is running can inspect for this problem. Dropping the engine oil pan and installing new o-rings can repair this problem.

I have a 99 with 85,000 miles. I would listen for clicks at slow speeds on uneven surfaces, which seem to come from the front end. There are some parts with teflon bushings which seem to last only 25 to 30,000 miles, and I think they are called strut braces or something like that. Also, look at the brake rotors for corrosion. It can get so bad that brake efficiency is down. Also the parking brake has a separate (expensive) set of components, and they rust.

Price around 14.500 Euro. (ECC,airbags, electric windows, metal paint)
They asked ME how much warranty I wanted, so I asked 12 months.
What is the VIP extended warranty ? Is it valid in Belgium ?

First owner, around 45, married but no children. Buy themselves V70's (850) each 3 years. Have bought a cross country. They come/came on maintenance at the same dealer. Contact them ? Don't think the dealer will have a problem with that.

Mileage : combination between work/home and holiday in the south of Germany (a Munich fan)

What do you mean with : 91000 just broken ? You mean that it is peanuts for this engine to do this amount of kilometres ?
What about the distribution belt ? I heard around 80.000km ? Is that correct ? What else should I look for ?
