buying metric disk brake micrometer

Just a note: I have a one inch micrometer and it can just barely
measure the rotors. A 30 mm micrometer would be a nice size (one
inch is common; 30 mm are harder to find).

The digital ones are mm or inch with the flick of a switch and are
easier to read.

ebay.com has a lot of em.

I have to ask. Why-ever in the world would you buy a metric micrometer just to measure your discs once. Or twice. Or even three times? Twas me, I'd borrow a micrometer. If it wasn't metric, I'd do math...I guess you want to know whether your rotors are worn to the point of replacement? My rule of thumb, quick, dirty and effective: If they ain't warped, use 'em. If they are too thin, I bet they are warped already. Works for me, you suit yourself.

i'd like to buy a micrometer becuase i have this obscene obsession with collecting tools. if i were to buy a micrometer, i'd like to get it in metric becuase i learned metric in school, i live in Canada, and all the volvo manuals are also in metric. i'd like to buy a micrometer because i'd use it for other things. Like the saying goes: when you have a micrometer, everything looks like it needs adjusting a millionth of an inch, or micron, if i went metric. if i have four disk brakes, i'd end up using it at least four times (once for each wheel!) until someone borrowed it and ran it over with their car.

but you do have good points.

Right answer. You can't have too many tools, or so I try to get my wife to believe.
