Well it is time to change trans oil I do it every 50,000K (30000mi,) do I need to use volvo brand fluid or is mobil ATF as good or better

The front drive manuals DO NOT use ATF. Recomend the Volvo stuff.

I'd advise what Volvo uses as it's a special type of synthetic fluid. There is no change interval for your MT and most people never do it so you should first call your dealer to see if they have it as chances are good that they won't and it'll need to be ordered.

The Volvo special fluid is about the only choice. Mobil 1 ATF is not recommended. A while back (a couple years) one or two folks here switched to Redline MTL - I have not read any long term results. Amsoil does not make an equivalent product to the elusive Volvo fluid.

I suspect it is a thin gear oil - I may but a bottle to check it out.

Thanks all for the info will stick to the volvo fluid I was told by an independent volvo mechanoc that it is recommended to change the trans fluid every 50000km
