my a/c smells terrible somewhat like mildew. tried spraying lysol into a/c system. is my evaporator going bad? how can i fix this problem? getting very frustrated. the a/c blows mist out at times, the mist smells funny. also - seems to be a coolant loss. what do i do?

I have to deodorize/disinfect my AC about once a year, mold tends to grow in the vents because the cool air causes condensation in the system; and where there's moisture, mold will grow.

I've use a product called Clean Air from a local auto parts store to fix this problem. You have to spray it into the air intake and the vents.

A way to avoid this problem is to leave the blower on with the AC off to blow off the cold air before shutting down the engine. I'm just way to lazy to do this every time.

The dealer will have some spray for that. They usually don't charge for it.. Takes minutes....

Don't know what it is, the dealer can tell you. I assume that you turn the AC on, and spray it in the air intake...

If the smell does not go away within a few days after flushing the A/C, you probably need a new evaporator.

Actually, if the smell isn't gone by the time you pick the car up from the dealer, you'll need a new one..
