Wheel Overkill? 850 1997

I just purchased a plain jane (no GLT or R or T)1997 850. I need to replace tires and am thinking of upgrading wheels to 16" and buying Kumho ECSTA Supra 712 205/50-16's. Is it overkill for a non-turbo car. (nothing else suspension wise has been added or changed)
Thanks,
Steve

You are on the verge of maxxed out...
I have Firehawk 205-55vr 16's on my 855 and the rub slightly.
I also have Firehawk 195 60hr 15's on a 1991 Honda Wagovan, so take that for what its worth...(they came off the 855) When it comes to wheels/tires, as long as they fit under the fenders, they are not overkill...

16" is either 205-50-16 or 205-55-16 (205-50 to be safer against rubbing). and charles was kind enough to post a $200 rebate on a set of 4 volvo wheels on his website. the rebate is from volvo, and also obtainable via volvo's ownercircle website.

What tires and size are you running now? I don't know anything about size compatibility, but as far as tires go I think that it would be a great upgrade. I put 215-60-15(?) V rated Comp T/A tires on my mom's Camry and she loves the added grip and security.

Put them on and be done with it. The Khumo's are a great tire to upgrade to, especially on a car like yours that's still stock or even one with some suspention upgrades. You will notice more grip but the Khumo's sidewalls are still soft enough that you probably won't notice much change in ride stiffness or harshness like you would with even higher performance tires.

My Advice...put them on and tell us what you think.

I don't think so. You're only going up one size. I own an 850-R with 17" wheels, and a car is a car is a car. It is all personal taste. Sometimes I wish mine came with 16" wheels for a slightly softer ride. Sometimes I consider going to 16ers for that same reason.

Make yourself happy and do what you want. :-)
