Fault Code Reader 850

People
Can anyone please tell me where I can get a fault code reader to plug into the fault code socket in front of the gear-shift and how much it costs? will this give me a read out of all possible faults found on my '97 850?
Thanks Folks

    I have 1997 850 turbo, and i bought the www.OBD-2.com kit.

you need a PC or Laptop (preferrably) to hook it up to. it has a cable that connects to a serial port on PC and OBDII port in car.

I like it, it cost 122 for the ISO version, i paid 144 for a dual setup (volvo any jap and chrylser are all ISO) and my wife has a ford so i got a ford/ISO one.

works real good, reads all codes, and resets both Check engine and service engine lights. read all codes current and pending in Engine ECU and TRANNY ECU, and chasis codes/sips/airbag, although it does not read the AC Diagnostic codes you need a VST volvo service tool for that.

    Dan.

you can go to there website and download a demo.

Is the software easy to use and understand? I downloaded demo, but it looked a little confusing.....

yes it is easy to use, if you ignore some of the tabs/screns that are more gearaed to a Shop like the O2, graph, search, test and data, etc. You can play with thoose and learn more about them.

All i use are the "info" "status" "codes" and the virtual Dash is cool.

the only screens you use to read the codes are: status and codes. Status shows you are connected or not connected and "clears" the codes when you do an "Update" and "Clear"

after you connect to the car's OBDII than do an update on the status screen, this gets the "check Engine" codes, and then clear them. Using the same screen click on "enhanced" on the tool bar, and you clear the "Service" light.

it takes about 5 minutes to read to all all codes and turn off the lights.

Easy once you do it a few times.

        Dan

1, Parts store, Acutron about $150
    2, eBay $?
3, www.OBD-2.com This one will reset the service light as well as read the codes but you need to run the program on your PC $122
