600 miles between 4-3-5 codes 850 1995

My car set a front 02 sensor error code again. The last one (and first one with me) was at 80,404 miles. Today's mileage is 81,030. There were no other codes, just like last time.

If this were being caused by vacumn leaks I suspect there would be other codes or driveability problems. There aren't. I'll see how long this takes to happen again then probably pull the sensor out and try cleaning it as per the Ozbrick website posts. I know, I can just replace it with a Bosch universal # 15097, which is available at Autozone and other shops but I like messing around with this stuff. BTW, the Autozone price is $150.00.

Another lister suggested fuel quality could be triggering the errors. I'll try changing my brand which right now, ahem, Sam's Club's finest 92 octane. I'll try Texaco for awhile and see what happens.

I just replaced my front o2 sensor on my 95 850 and it is driving much better. I got the bosch sensor through eeuroparts.com for $120 and it plugs right in with no wire splicing. I also had the 4-3-5 code.

Hey, we have a winner! That's the route I'll go. Thanks a lot.

Did you replace your front O2 sensor yet?

That code is "front O2 sensor slow" so that means that it's electrically, internally not responding as fast as required. Cleaning it is a waste of time as they don't clog. I've never heard of that before, nor would I ever advise trying it.

I also would never buy an aftermarket O2 sensor for a Volvo but that's my opinion and I have no experience with aftermarket O2 sensors. I'd replace it with OEM and be done with it.

I also doubt that "fuel qualaity" is an issue unless you're running very cheap gas with impurities or lower octane than expected. I try to use better quality fuels like Amoco or Mobil (93 octane premium only) in my turbo Volvo UNLESS prices skyrocket and I'm looking for a bargain (rare) BUT fuel quality won't effect the speed that the O2 sensor's responding, you need another O2 sensor for THAT code.

Thanks for the input. Bosch's website turns up the same part number, 15097, that IPD and Autozone sell as the front sensor replacement. I've found that Bosch item anywhere from $130-$160. I suspect strongly that this is the Volvo OEM part.

the bosch senor will work, but you have to splice the wires, the OEM will plug in, aftermarket will not.

The Bosch part is available with a connector but it sounds like it's not the Volvo connector. Splicing isn't a problem. They also offer a universal sensor for that position at about 1/3 the price of the other. It doesn't have a connector and must be spliced.
