Replacing seats in '94 850 with '96 seats 850 1994

The seats in my '94 850 are in pretty bad condition (since I bought it 9 months ago). I found a deal on '96 seats in the same color that are in nice condition. My only concern is if there are any issues with putting in seats that have side airbags when the originals did not have airbags.

Thanks for in advance for any assistance.

I looked into doing something similar for my 850 a few years ago, and even contacted a few salvage yards for the seats.

I was told, by the salvage yard folks, that it was illegal to install airbag seats in a car which was not originally equipped with them. Of course, that sounds completely illogical, since it would, if done properly, only be making the car safer... But I guess there's some concern that if done improperly, it could cause lots of problems, i.e. some technician working on the car without knowing about the airbags does something to result in an accidental deployment...

I'm not sure if what I was told is correct or not.

I seem to recall that the side-impact airbag system is completely contained in the seats, but that the doors require some sort of an insert installed in them to properly trigger the airbags. You might want to look into that as well.
