Metal-to-metal sound S60 2001

Yesterday while parking the engine almost shut down because of too low rev (can happen). The engine was heavily vibrating (which is normal), but I noticed
a "knocking" sound (metal-to-metal like) which supprised me.

Anyone noticed this too?

Hi,

Check the heat shields. There are several. Some are around the turbo and other are along the exhaust pipe. They do come loose over time do to the heat.

Good Luck,

Steven---

Thanks for all your input.

Personaaly I find out that the origin may be a resonance with the motormount crossbar (below the windscreen).

My guess is that the load from the power steering pump slowed the engine
enough to cause the knock. If the AC was on and kicked in at the same
time as you turned the wheel, this is even more likely.

Thanks RobsT5. Indeed while parking the power steering is active, lowering the rev. But do you have any idea what the METAL "knock" sound is?

My 850 does that on shut down. I hear a metal on metal clacking sort of noise. I had the oil pan off not too long ago and the only thing I can attribute it to is the side to side play I noticed on the connecting rods. I have would hope it to be somewhat normal but dunno. I should probably post myself for acceptable side to side play. Anyways... don't know if it applies to you just my experience.

Thanks for the info!

Which "side to side play on the connecting rods" are you referring to?

When I was just feeling around in the bottom of the engine to see if everything felt tight and just kinda staring into the bottom of my engine I grabbed one of the connecting rods. Where it bolts to the crank shaft I was able to move it side to side about 1 - 2mm.
