acceleration w/ auto trans? 850 1993

How is acceleration on the GLT non-turbo with the automatic transmission? If I'm used to a 760 turbo w/ auto would I be disappointed?

I've got an automatic 850 96 n/a, and when I need to merge into an L.A. Freeway, I change the driving mode to Sport with a push of a button--most times it's on there--and I slam my foot on the gas pedal. It ain't turbo boost, but it allows me to merge safely into the fast lanes. I'm guessing it takes me 7 to 8 sec to get to 60mph.

* I'm thinking of upgrading my steel wheels to alloys. I hear that's suppose to give you faster accelaration, in comparison to heavy steel wheels, and shorter breaking distance, although the brakes in the 850 are more than ample.

Good luck.

very slowwww...pretty heavy car and not geared like a japanese car that get's too 3500 rpm quick...if you're looking for acceleration buy a turbo or a year with the LPT.

I guess compare the weight, torque, and transmission of each. While 850 4 speed automatic acceleration is leisurely compared to the turbo 5's, I would think that it could possibly be better than a turbo 4. I have never driven a turbo 4 with 3 sp auto so I can't tell.

I own a 1995 N/A GLT and the acceleration is nothing to write home about that is for sure. If that is what you are looking for go with at least the low pressure turbo. I replaced mine with an 1997 850R and that is night and day.

Just brainstorming about what my next car will be ahead of time. As for the turbo, well, my dad owns a '94 854T and that car flies. O/T, I wonder if it would be possible to bolt a 16v head to my 230FT.

Expect 0-60 to be in the mid 7s for GLT(LPT) For the 850 N/A auto dont expect much. I would guess around 8 secconds to get to 60. As for the R, turbo or T-5 models 0-60 times are usually in the early 6s. I have a '94 854 turbo w/ 150,000 miles. Never seen front tires make that much of a disturbance. It goes. Good Luck!

Tell me about it. I drove his car yesterday because I don't have insurance on mine ATM, was turning onto the main road and saw a brief break in traffic, being used to my car I "floored it" and the tires smoked...*oops*

Wife's 95 850 GLT wagon with 60K miles is well over 10 seconds 0 to 60.
(Its fairly loaded with options and wagons are a couple hundred pounds
heavier then sedans.) Tranny is also loath to kick-down on occasion
making merging difficult (but not always, which is even worse).

When I let my wife drive my S70 T5M she starts talking about wanting
a new car :)
