AC Condensor, anyone changed one? tips? advice? 850 1997

I am going to change the AC condensor in my 854 this weekend, I have a leak in mine (allready know for sure this is the prolem, and oh so miss the cold air comming from my dash.

I have changed this part in a 244 and wanted to know if anyone has changed this in an 850?

Anyone used an afermarket Condensor? if so how does it perform compared to the Volvo part you changed? does it fit good?

Any advice or helpfull tips that i should know?
Do i need any special tools?
Etc.

I will have the system evacuated and recharged afterwards at a shop, but since i am trying to save a few $$ I will change the part myself.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Check the archives - I recall someone used a sealing product that was expensive but work well for them.

I did note there web address just incase I needed it - you might give it a try and report back before ripping the dash apart. Fortunately, I have no experiance with them or the product, so I can't give you recommendation. Perhaps others have used the sealer and can tell you good or bad.

Here is address: http://cryochem.com/dist.html

Thanks for the Website link, I talked to a place here in Houston that distributes the stuff (cryo chem Self Sealing Refrigerant)and they say it works great, they sell a lot of it, and it comes with a guarantee. the price is 199.99 for 134 system retail. Since i am changing the 850's Condensor (in front of radiater) and it's cost is only 139.95 i will hold off on this product untill the EVAP coils in dash eventually leak.

ALthough my wifes car has a AC leak that requires recharging every couple of months (I think the coils in here car are leaking) I will give it a try with her Ford, and if it works well, i may eventually put it into my 850.

I will report back if it works.

The supplier only has good things to say, but then they make there living selling the stuff.

Hi,

I did this last year on my 94 855, GREAT FUN ! ! :-(

It took me about 12 hours to complete, the guy at the airco shop where I went for recharging told me it takes him about 8 hours.

The only special tools you need are a set of torx bits an a lot of bandage :-)

Tips:

1.Ask your arco shop to disconnect the condensor under the hood (special tools required)

2.Start reading the dash removal procedure at BAY13 for a start.

3.Very important, disconnect your battery, there are lots of electrical connections you have to remove, like airbags ect.ect.

4.The main bolts (4) witch hold the dash are hidden under the air intake just in front of the windscreen (remove the wipers first).

5.Replace all dash bulbs as I found (after completion) that 3 of them had died :-(

6.While rebuilding your dash, put silicone spray on contacting surfacces of all plastic parts to prevent squeeking noise.

If you leave me your e-mail adress I send you a picture of the car without a dash (looks like a bomb went of in it).

Good luck,

Rob.

I see the instructions for my 98 at alldatadiy.com. But, it costs
$25 to get a 1 year subscription.

Hmmm, people are gonna think I work for alldata.com, I don't.
