Compressor Noise 850 1994

I have a question regarding compressor noise. My AC blows literally ice cold and up till yesterday worked quietly. All the sudden (over night) the compressor is now noisy. I don't dare use it now because I'm afraid of doing damage. Is there something that can be done to quiet it down? Does it need a shot of oil? Thanks.

What kind of noise? Clutch bearings? The bearings/clutch assy can be replaced. Internal racket? The compressor may be toast.

the clutch can be found on Ebay for 39.95 I think was the price, and oil is cheap a couple of bucks, some cans even have a filler hose and fitting attahced to them for under 10 bucks.

But if it is a real bad internal noise, it is better not to use the Compressor because once if Fails internally and locks up, it will fill the system with trash and you will have to flush out the AC.

I have heard them make a little noise and work fine for years, my wife had a accord with a noisey compressor that chattered for 2 summers before it eventially went out. IF it is internall you will eventially also have to replace it.
