Service light after 5000km / 3000 miles? S70

A week ago I picked up my first Volvo - an obviously pampered 1998 S70A 2.5 20 valve (non turbo)with a verified 49000 kilometres (30 600 miles) on it.

It has a full dealer service record with the 45000 km service done at 44000 km... but just over a year ago. (So it's done 5000 km / 3000 miles in the last year.)

Last night the service light came on. I intend changing the year-old oil this weekend but is it likely to need anything else or can I ignore the light till the 60000km (37500 mile) service?

With thanks!

The light will come on based on time or milage. Something
like one year or 10K miles whichever comes first (exact values vary
by model year). Dealer can also change it to be 6 months / 5K miles.

I think you should be OK as long as you change the oil and filter.

I recommend you ignore the oil change schedule set by Volvo at 5000 or 7500 miles and have your oil changed every 3000 miles to ensure your engine's safety.

Thanks Ray & Toxic. Yes - I am a great believer in frequent oil and filter changes and my engines (all Audi and Honda previously) tend to go to high mileages smoke and trouble free so the expense pays off. Have gone for Mobil One this time (only synth oil I could find on Saturday... but then I *do* live in the third world!). Will now ignore the light till the 60000 kilometre dealer service.
