Recharging AC system 850 1994

My evaporator's probably leaking and it was charged up by a local mechanic about 6 months ago. Now it's not working as well again. I'm going to try to recharge it myself and use one of those sealants at the same time.

My questions for my fellow brickboarders:

What tools do I need?
How much R134 should I put in because I heard if you overfill the system it can cause problems too.
Any rec. for a good sealant.

Thanks.

Be careful with sealants as I've read they gum up the compressor and can make it fail. Also, when refrigerant leaks out supposedly so does some the oil that lubricates the compressor.

don't mess with replacing your compressor if it's still working, just replace the evap and make sure to install a HEPA filter for longer life.

well DKLEW my freind... this is your budy Mrsha.. just did mine last week...

You can not believe how easy it is.... I mean easy...

1... go to Walmart I mean walmart buy a recharge kit.. call R134 it have all the connector..

2. get about 3 more small can off Freon.. it cost about $5 each ... the main kit come with a big can and gauge.. that kit cost $25...

3. now on your lelf side fender inside engine compartment... where the fan belts is....

there is a black connector it lable (N6'" I think...

take that cap out ..

than connected your freon can to it.. turn on your car and aircondition..
turn the can up side down and you can feel it suck it all in..

now plug in a new can and keep it going intill it full.. take couple can

so fast the whole deal took me less than 15 minutes...

no danger.. no blow up... like the dealer said.. it is a cake walk...

in the kit it have all the detail what you need to do.. go for it....

There should be a bunch of posts in the archieves about sealant. The system holds about 1 1/2 lbs. You can get a good idea of how much to use by putting a pressure guage on the low pressure port. Check the pressure and addsome. check it again and add more if you need to. adapters, pressure guage and r134 are available at Pep Boys or most other stores. cheap.

I hear the sealant goes in first. Haven't had to use them yet so I can't recommend any brands.

Wear googles. That stuff can blind you!!!!!
