what is shift lock overdrive? 850

I just got my t5r last month and still have not recievd the manual from the dealer. Can't figure out what the shift lock overdrive button to right of the shifter is? If anyone knows what it is or what it does I would really like to know. Also I can't tell whether or not my car is in sport, economy, or winter mode. There seems to be little lights above the switch, but they don't light up when I switch it to sport or economy, I also don't seem to know how to engage the winter mode. It seems like the car is in sport because it is very fast, but would like to know for sure, thanks.

kevin, the shift lock means you can shift out of Park when the car isn't running. This shift lock is a safety device so you can't take it out of Park accidentally. The shift overrides this. The Econony light is green and sport like is yellow. Winter works on economy light and there should be an orange arrow lighting up on right side on instrument panel. You can download like I did, the manual from www.volvocars.com. They're the official Volvo website for manuals: tech, service, training, etc.

Kevin, to follow up on Revscpa's note, because your trans mode selector switch light isn't working (as I read your note), the way to tell if you're in sport or econo is by the switch position. If it's DEPRESSED (identical to the seat warmer switch when it's warming - I assume that light works? Little yellow/orange job), you're in sport; if it's up - i.e. flush with the housing, it's in econo. Its movement is the same as the seat warmer switch, where if in depressed position the light lights and the seat warms.
