Larger steering stops for 205/55 16s? 850

Just curious, but the posts I've read on larger tire/wheel combinations discuss the front tires rubbing the plastic fender wells at or near full lock. As this causes the liners to pop their screws out and other problems, has anyone considered manufacturing larger stops to replace those on the control arms? I never run my steering to full lock but my wife will. 8^0

Am I completely off the mark here? Would it be that hard to do?

Hmmmm.

One could make them or buy steering stops for a C-70. They are twice as thick and reduce turn radius accordingly. Blind rivets hold them on.

Volvo use to make plastic stops that fit around the rack ends for that as they've had old service bulletins about it many years ago, not due to larger tire sizes but for a customer who couldn't stand the rubbing noise made at full turns. I've never needed to install them but I know that at one time they existed. Perhaps (and that's a maybe?) a good dealer parts guy can find you that PN if he's so inclined to check? From my experience, his initial desire will be to say "not available" but maybe you'll get lucky with the right guy?

If that's true, I would imagine some strong thick silicone tubing used in high pressure systems, which is CHEAPO, cut to the length of the stops, and slit on one side longitudinally, and in needed, glued, would probably do the same thing. And with Volvo parts prices, I'm sure it'll be about 5% the cost.
