Volvo GPS Navigation System questions - 2001 S60 T5 S60 2001

I recently acquired a pre-owned 2001 S60 T5, and I've been searching for info on the navigation system for several days without any luck. Please help if you can.

My question: My car is equipped with the dash-mounted navigation display screen and the steering wheel navigation controls. However, when the screen rises out of the dash, it displays the following message - "NO DATA DISCS ARE LOADED IN THE SYSTEMS CD CHANGER. PLEASE LOAD CD-ROM DATA DISC(S)". This may not be verbatim, but it is close.

Here's my confusion. My car only has an HU-613 stereo with a single in-dash CD. To the best of my knowlege, there is no CD changer.

Before I spring for $180 to buy a NAVTECH data disc, I want to ensure that my system is truly ready to use it.

Can the map data disc be read by the in-dash CD player, or must I install a factory changer in order to use the navigation system? Or am I overlooking something obvious?

I apologize for such a silly question, but I've read the owner's manual cover to cover and it does not even mention the words "navigation" or "GPS" anywhere. I am at a loss.

Thanks - TNT

I don't have the nav system in my car, but you can find the Nav System manual online... go to www.volvocars.com and select the Owner's Circle link. You'll probably have to create a profile, then log in. Go to Caring/Glove Box/Owner's Manuals and you'll find the nav manual. It appears the system uses the CD changer located in the trunk behind a panel on the left side. I hope it's there!

The stereo system has nothing to do with the CD disks for the Nav system. I don't have an S60 but rather the 2001 V70. In the trunk, on probably the left side, there should be a carpeted panel that pulls out. Inside there, between the fender and the floor of the trunk should be what looks like a Music CD changer. It isn't for music, but for Map CDs. Make sure you have this changer before buying the discs. If it isn't there it could be under the inside top of the trunk. Let me know if you find it. Good luck, Thomas

      Thomas,

I found it! Behind the driver's side panel in the trunk. Thanks a lot. No map discs were in it, but at least I know where they go now.

Cool. Glad to hear it. How much did Volvo quote for the discs for one region? Just curious as we are about to move back to the U.S. and I will be buying discs. If you don't want to buy from Volvo, and are planning to buy more than one region, you can get the disc direct from Navtech on line, 180 for first set and 140 for each additional set. Just an Idea.

        Thomas

You cannot buy the disc directly from Volvo. You can get it either from a Volvo Retailer (and they have to get it from Navtech anyway) or call Navtech directly.

VOLVO USED A DUAL PURPOSE CHANGER FOR A FEW MONTHS LAST YEAR...IF YOU TURN THE SOURCE KNOB AND SEE 'CD CHANGER' AS AN AVAILABLE OPTION, YOU CAN USE THE CHANGER FOR MUSIC CD'S AS WELL....

What does this have to do with the Nav system?
