Intermittent door light switch- where is it? S70 1998

The switch in the door (drivers side) that activates the interior lights is intermittent in my '98 S70- sometimes I have to re-open and close the door to turn off the interior lights. I don't believe it's a case of slamming the door harder. Before I take it in for service, I was wondering where the switch is located - I've heard it's part of the lock mechanism. Is this switch serviceable? Spraying lube inside the lock doesn't seem to help. I was wondering if these switches degrade over time. Anyone else experience the same problem?

I picked up the car from a volvo dealer called Robert Motors on Dundas St in the west end, which is where I've been dealing with since I first purchased a 240 back in '88. But recently I've started to work with a garage named "Viking Garage" who mainly are a Volvo shop with slightly cheaper rates. They are within 5 minutes of the dealer. My 240 went exclusively through the dealer over the past 14 years. They have good mechanics and excellent service, for what I had experienced, but at a dealer price.

There is a micro-switch inside the door lock assembly, and is not serviceable. Lock assembly replacement to fix.

Replacement not always necessary S70 1998

      Not always.

I had the same problem and removed the lock (fairly easy).

Then, I sparyed the micro-switch plunger with PB Blaster (or WD-40) and worked it a couple of dozen times. So far, after many months, it works every time.

about removing the lock... S70 1998

Thanks for the info Bryan. How does one begin to remove the lock? Has it got something to do with the 2 hex bolts? Does the door trim panel need to be removed?

        Steve.

          Hi Steve,

You have to remove the door panel and the srews under the plastic cap. on the door edge as well as loosen the window channel and disconnect the handle and cable.

The procedure is covered in detail in the Haynes Manual. I strongly suggest that you get one before going ahead. It is available from Haynes.com or IPD.

It is too detailed for me to give you step-by-step instructions on-line. But, if you need help after you ge the manual, let me know.

          Thanks,

          Bryan
