Sunroof deflector / oil drain plug questions

1st question, has anyone put a Sunroof deflector on their car, and did it make a noticeable difference? And did you insatll the stick-on-adhesive style or the clip on style, and what do you think the advantages are of each?

Also, I've seen several advertisements for oil pan drain plugs with a built in valve, so you never have to remove the plug, just open the valve instead to drain the oil. Anyone out there every install one of these, and what do you think of it? Any horror stories?

Thanks

i installed the hook on type last summer and i am happy with it. i used the stick on type on my 740 a couple of years ago. it didnt last a year. exposure to the elements took its toll and started coming off at the ends.
as to oil plugs, either one you get, you still have to crawl under your car, so why change? spend ur extra bucks on something useful like better headlamps, etc.
    regards

The deflector makes it so you'll have less wind turbulance with the SR opened all the way, if you ever do that?
As for that plug, I'd remove it ASAP as not only have I've seen them leak, IF it's you that has the "horror story" it could be a VERY COSTLY horror story and certainly not worth the added risk IMHO. How hard is it really to just unscrew the OEM drain plug when you think about it? Not too is it. Get yourself a good quality 6 point 17mm combo wrench and you'll be set.

Ted, I've used the SAME plug for 5 years. Took it from car to car and it has never leaked. I can't say the same for the original drain plug. I've even used the aluminum crush washer. Now it didn't leak all the time but I had to constantly check it(and be sure to torque it correctly!).

      Ted:
Could you please tell this neophyte what a "combo wrench" is?
I presently have a 17mm socket and just put that on my Craftsman
ratchet handle. Can't get much leverage but it ususally works.

You probably have one, opened at one end and closed (like a socket) at the other end.
I know what you mean about poor leverage whilst on the garage floor but if you get the right angle on it, it's usually not too bad IMO.

    Mad,
I've used the brass Fumoto oil drain plug for the last 5 years on my Volvos. Piece of cake to change oil. No leaky drain plugs to worry about. Just a quarter turn of the valve. That's it! Go to www.fumotovalve.com for info. you won't be disappointed.

Riddle me this Eddie. Since you have used this valve on all of your Volvo's,
did you also purchase the necessary adapter?

I didn't use the adapter on my S70 but I did on my S80 and just used the adapter on my S60 without checking to see if I needed it or not. It has never leaked and makes oil changing a little easier.

Eddie, how much does the valve weigh compared to the OEM plug? I am just concerned that the added weight could cause additional stress going over potholes and the like.

Naturally it weighs a little more than the standard drain plug but we're talking about ounces here. Don't worry about 'stress'.
