Gas mileage 850

What kind of gas mileage are you getting with your non-turbo 854's? I'm getting around 22 in town...but it's "easy" in town driving, not true city. This seems a bit low...maybe I'm expecting too much!

My 1993 850 GLT is getting 24 around town and 27-30 on the Freeway. She's got 156,000 miles on her and runs great. I do all of the services on time and change oil every 3,000. I used synthetic for a while but didn't notice any direct benefits that wouldn't be seen with the 3k change intervals. Additionally, once a month I'll put in a bottle of Outlaw fuel injector cleaner.

    Good luck.

    Chris

Just got back from Mexico. average about 65-70 Mph. MPG was at 30 + change. Best Mileage I've ever gotten. Maybe it's downhill both ways, or maybe it's just the gas. SHELL 91 octane.

Just a note. After about 10 minutes of warming up, the car gets A LOT better gas mileage. Why is that? i.e. first thing in the morning, 15-18 mpg, while after about 10 minutes of driving we're at 25+ mpg. Weird huh?

Cars run "rich" until warm, this condition uses more fuel and yields a lower MPG.

    I have a 98 S70 T5M. About 21 MPG commuing at my previous place
of employement with 50% highway 50% city. Now I drive about
70 miles per day with 90% highway of it highway and I am seeing
25 MPG (driving 70 to 75 MPH) (weekend driving included which
is mostly city). All numbers from trip computer.

If you're getting 22 in suburban/town driving, you right on what's expected. In true city driving with short trips (no good warmup), it will drop to 18. The best highway mileage I got was probably 28-29, and that was at slow speed (55-60).

      Just for your reference:

      I have a 2001 S60 N/A manual. As measured yesterday, on 95% freeway mailes @ 80 mph average: 27 mpg.

      Hi,

The first thing to remember with my post is that a gallon is 4.5 litres to me compared to 4 for you. Anyway one major factor is the 'stickiness' of your tyre brand. I used to use Michellen for a long time gave good wear. Then someone introduced me to then Goodyear's top of the range NCT2. These are extreamly sticky especially in a warm environment, the occasion hot day here in the UK Anyway the fuel usage went up. I have since moved onto Goodyear F1 and the wear is good, trackion very good and resistance less so improving my fuel economy.

I have also found using Mobil 1 over the years decreased general fuel usage by about 5%.

SO i get now about 30mpg (about 26 1/2 for you) and 34mpg (about 30 for you) driving on motorways/highways around 75->80.

      My car is a N/A 2litre 20v beatie.

      Mark in the uk.
      uk voc 94 850glt 2l 20v 169k.

      Mark in Leeds/UK
