Hello,
I live in Germany so Heico did the work on the spot. The new found power is incredible so I am not really worried about a few lost miles. I did try to take it easy my 2nd tank of gas but still saw the loss. I guess it could even out. Strangely, they put in a whole new ECU, and took out mine. This I found out did not remove the speed limiter. they told me that my volvo dealer could take that off with software, but I would have to have the original ECU in, let them do the limiter off, and then come back to go the upgraded ECU??? I know I won't use the top end once we come back to the U.S. (this summer) but I don't want to know the limiter is still there + I can use it for a few more months here. Any insight on this? They tell me that their ECU does not affect Volvos ability to do all types of computer work - just that the original ECU must be in to do the limiter? Now that I see that IPD finally got a an upgrade for the 2001s, I kind of like the idea of getting your own ECU back. Would like you thoughts. They tell me 285- 290 HP, but the torgue they measure in Nms. It says 380 Nm (newton meters??). Will have to convert this somehow.
As far as torqe goes - I noticed that if on dry pavement, if you are already going about 45 MPH and punch it all the way, the traction control light starts blinking because the front wheels are getting away from themselves.
Yes, I did their sport exhaust, with the dual tip (I'll personally e-mail you the picture). The way they cut a little of the rear area to make it fit leaves the exhaust looking natural. I never liked the angled down tip of the original so the looks of this to me is great. The sound is something else. It sounds so good I find myself turning down the dolby system to listen to the exhaust during upshifts, downshifts etc. The car is an Automatic but I have the Teptronic type trans. With the 5th gear, the RPMs are always low, so the note of the exhaust is just low growl, but not uncomfortable. If you really step on it, your hear a massive rush from the turbo back, and a great tone out the back. Totally happy.
The picture isn't quite right now in that I recently had the car lowered since then, and did a complete suspension kit. Eibach springs, and Sachs shocks. I was most worried about this upgrade and a harsh ride - but again am totally satisfied. It is stiffer, but since the new shocks dampen so much better it is just an overall better feal, more control etc. - going over bumps feels better than before. Have notice haowever that if you turn the wheel all the way, you hear the corner of the wheel run the inside most plastic of the fender (not the body part). With the poor turning radius of this car it will take getting used to - No more U-turns.
Thanks for the reply, Thomas
